Watchman
September 19, 2023
In Ezekiel 33 God called Ezekiel to be his watchman over Israel to warn them and to warn Ezekiel.
Ezekiel 33: 7 "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 8 When I say to the wicked, 'O wicked man, you will surely die,' and you do not speak out to dissuade him from his ways, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. 9 But if you do warn the wicked man to turn from his ways and he does not do so, he will die for his sin, but you will have saved yourself.
These words of God to Ezekiel are also true for those who Jesus has called to be his watchman over his flock.
John 10: 2 The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. 3 The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
Jesus said his watchman are those who are responsible to opens the gate to his sheep and only allow him in.
Just like Ezekiel the watchman are responsible for his sheep to know only Jesus and teach them to only obey Jesus’ teachings and commandments as their Lord so that Jesus can lead them home to his Father.
Watchman is responsible to dissuade the flock from wickedness so that they will not be separated from Jesus and accountable if they don’t and hold them responsible if they are separated from him.
Paul said he was innocent of the blood of all men.
Acts 20: 25 "Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men. 27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.
Paul being a watchman of Jesus’ flock declared his innocents of all men’s blood because he never hesitated to proclaim the whole will of God.
Paul commissioned the overseers to be watchmen over their flock that Holy Spirit has given them remembering that Jesus had purchased them with his own blood.
So, pastors are the watchmen that are responsible to teach the whole will of God so that the flock are not misled away from Jesus and not teach what they think is palatable and pleasing to their ears to win their favor and not make them dislike them or leave the church or lose their job.
I have known some in church I have been in and pastors that think a pastor’s job is to bring people to church by making church feel like one big happy social family, by being entertaining, willing to condone bad behavior and even sins and not teach the whole will of God. They do not want a watchman responsible to just teach God’s will and to dissuade the sheep from sinning and to warn them to repent so that they do not separate themselves from Jesus and lose their life with him.
Paul said Jesus will judge us for what we have done good or bad.
2 Corinthians 5: 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
Jesus will judge all his watchman by what they have taught, led, corrected and have warned his flock by the whole will of God because they know they are responsible for their blood. Jesus will Judge his flock for how they obeyed the whole will of his Father by listening and obeying him as their Lord.
As a watchman I understand that I must always teach and lead only by the whole will of God so that Jesus’ flock only hear and follow his voice and not a stranger’s voice and I must always correct those who are not loving God but seeking their own desires knowing if I do not dissuade them Jesus will hold me responsible for their blood.
When I became the watchman of our church, I have made changes in it and have corrected some in church who were not being obedient our Lord’s teaching and I have done my best to teach only the whole will of God.
But I have not found it to be a joy being a leader which Hebrews teaches it should be.
Hebrew 13: 17 Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.
At times my heart is burden being a watchman because many have left our church because they disagreed with my leadership and authority trying to be Jesus’ watchman and not being what they want church to be.
They may not understand what I do is because I want to be innocent of anyone’s blood and do not want anyone to perish but repent to Jesus and be saved.
Let us be Christ church obeying the whole will of God and never condone bad behavior or close our eyes to sin because we want to be innocent on the Day we stand before the judgement seat of Jesus and have kept his bride holy to him.
Be safe in Jesus. Your brother in Christ, Glenn.
