Live for Christ
January 9, 2024
Before Jesus came into your life would you agree you lived in the darkness of this world. A world that does not understand or know the light of Jesus that gives us eternal life.
John said Jesus is the light of life.
John 1: 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
We all were born into the darkness of this world, and some are blessed to be born with parents that knows the light of Christ and lived in it.
I was born in a family that did not know or believed in the light of Christ, so I lived in darkness. Even when I started going to church, I am sad to say that I was still in a gray area of knowing Christ light and at times remained in the darkness of this world.
Jesus teaches to know his light you must follow him and walk away from the darkness, and you will have eternal life.,
John 8: 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life."
To receive this light, you must follow Jesus which is to go after him and this is what Jesus said you must do.
Matthew 16: 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.
You must deny yourself, die to your sins and obediently follow Jesus. If you do not you will not be able to see the light of Christ and unable to find your way out of your darkness.
Jesus said that his light when he was on earth would be there only for little while.
John 12: 35 Then Jesus told them, "You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. 36 Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light."
Jesus’s light returned with him when he went home to be with his Father, so the light of his presence is no longer with us, and the darkness is still here. Jesus gave his light to the sons of light his apostles who have written his light in the Bible. When you are a disciple of God’s word, you receive the knowledge of Jesus’ light from it which saves you from the darkness of this world.
Peter teaches that when you walk in this knowledge of Jesus’ light you become participants in Jesus’ divine nature.
2 Peter 1: 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
The knowledge that you receive from Jesus’ teachings and commandments and obey them out of love for him you become participants in his divine nature which keeps you from being corrupted by the evil darkness of this world.
Your knowledge of Jesus must be with unwavering faith, built on a firm foundation that it is true to Jesus. There can be no doubt or questioning of its truth that this is the will of God for you, or you will succumb again to darkness of this world.
Peter teaches what we need to add to our faith to keep it true to Jesus.
2 Peter 1: 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
Peter said you need to add to our faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love which will show the divine nature of Jesus in you which will make you effective and productive in your knowledge of him.
2 Peter 1: 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But if these qualities are not being added to your faith you are short sighted in your understanding of your faith and cannot see its truth and you have forgotten Jesus’ forgiveness of your sins and still living in the darkness of this world.
2 Peter 1: 9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
So, if you believe in Jesus because you love God your Father with all your heart you will seek the knowledge to do what is good to please him and persevere in it with self-control that is godly shown by your kindness to your church family by loving them the way Jesus has loved you.
2 Peter 1: 10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
If you have eagerly added these things to your faith, then you can be sure that you have been called by Jesus to come to his Father and that you are one of God’s elects to be saved and you will know you will receive a rich welcome when you go home be with them.
So, be the light of Christ and reveal his divine nature in everything you do.
Be safe in Jesus. Your brother in Christ, Glenn.
