Holy Spirit Reminds You
May 9, 2022
Last Sunday I shared that Jesus’ brothers and sisters are those who are disciples of his teaching, who know his Father’s will and obeys it. (Matthew 12: 49-50).
As a disciple of God’s words, Jesus said you will be reminded of what he said by the Holy Spirit.
John 14: 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
This recalling of God’s words by the Holy Spirit is the evidence of God’s presence in you. You do not need to memorize the Bible address of where it is written you just need to know it is written in Scripture. Just like Jesus when he quoted Scripture verses from the OT, he just said it is written.
Do not feel pressured to memorize Scripture, just reach the Bible continuously seeking to know the heart and mind of God. Then the Holy Spirit will remind you what is written in it and the more you feed yourself daily in God’s word the more the Holy Spirit will recall to you, even where to find it.
When the Holy Spirit’s reminding comes to you quickly you begin to hear and see things from God’s perspective. You become someone who is quick to listen and slow to speak in discerning what is true. You measure your words and actions to be true to God’s word.
It is also important to know who receives the Holy Spirit.
John 7: 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living
water will flow from within him." 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
Jesus said anyone who believes in him will receive the Holy Spirit who will come and makes his home in a believer. So, it is very important to know what you believe in Jesus is true to Scripture.
Jesus warned that there will many false Jesus’, false prophets and false teachers who will distort God’s word about him, his teachings and his Father’s will for us.
Jesus proclaimed that God is his Father, meaning he is claiming to be God, co-equal to his Father. This is what the Pharisees knew he was saying and said that was blasphemous.
John 5: 17 Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working." 18 For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
As disciples we believe Jesus is our Lord, our God and obey his teachings as the will of God.
John 5: 19 Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son and
shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. 22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him. 24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.
To hear Jesus’ word means you obey it as the will of his Father who gives eternal life to all who believe in his Son as their Lord and what he did to save us.
Believing in Jesus is not just in thought it must transform into action. Jesus said our faith in him must be one of loving obedience only then will the Holy Spirit come and make his home in you.
John 14: 23Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
A disciple of Jesus constantly trains themselves to read the whole Bible. I encourage you to read daily following the daily bookmark or any reading plan that covers the whole Bible. Read seeking the heart and mind of God so you know his will, which is to obey his Son’s teachings and commandments.
In Matthew chapter 5-7, Jesus teaches what he wants us to obey which the Holy Spirit will remind you when you are in a situation which it will apply to.
Jesus taught we must distain committing any sin. Do not commit adultery with our eyes. Marriage must always be faithful and do not divorce unless unfaithful. To always forgive those who sin against you. To love your enemies. Do not judge like a hypocrite. When you give to help others and when you pray do it in secret to the Lord then you will receive his reward in heaven.
Do you recall these teachings in Matthew? If you do, it is the Holy Spirit reminding you of it, so obey them out of love for Jesus and the Holy Spirit will remain in you.
I say the Holy Spirit will remain in you means that he can also leave.
1 John 2: 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him.
The Holy Spirit will only teach you what is true to Scripture and not what is counterfeit and only those who seek God’s truth in Scripture will the anointing of the Holy Spirit remain in them. This anointing of the Holy Spirit in us is our guarantee of our eternal life with God.
Ephesians 1: 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our
inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.
This truth of the Holy Spirit remaining in you teaches that the saying once saved always saved does not stand in Scripture. If it did Paul would not have said, we need to work out our salvation with fear and trembling.
So, be a Christ disciple and seek God with all your heart in Scripture and the Holy Spirit will remind you of what he taught you and obey it and this will assure you of his seal remaining in you assuring your eternal inheritance.
Be safe in Jesus, Ps. Glenn
