God Your Greatest Treasure
September 25, 2023
Those who love God with all their heart are those who have made God their greatest treasure. Jesus has promised that those who love God will be his people and God will be their God forever in heaven.
Revelations 21: 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
Our love for God is to believe that Jesus out of love for his Father came to give everyone eternal life with his Father by obeying his Father and died for our sins to save us from being separated from God for all eternity.
When God is your greatest treasure, your love for him makes you no longer look for or seek to gain earthly treasures and its desires. They have become rubbish to you and your mind is set on heavenly things. You seek what will please your Father in heaven because you thirst to be with him. Jesus promises to satisfy your thirst letting you drink the water of life without cost.
Revelations 21: 5 He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." 6 He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
Jesus tells us in John what he will give us to drink.
John 7: 37 On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
So, those who thirst for God will receive living water the Holy Spirit to drink when they believe in Jesus as Scripture has said. The Holy Spirit will become a stream of living water of God’s truth for those who are a disciple of Jesus and will mature their heart and mind to be like Jesus helping them overcome this world as sons and daughters of God.
Revelations 21: 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."
The Bible teaches that there will be those in churches who will not make God their greatest treasure and will not thirst for him. They do not love him with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength. They do not fear God but will question and doubt his will for them written in Scripture. They have not made Jesus their Lord and Jesus will tell them why you called me Lord and not do what I taught and commanded. Paul said only those who confess Jesus as their Lord which means obeyed him will be saved.
The devil has declared war against God’s children, and he will attack us with his schemes and lies sending his dark powers of evil spiritual forces of this world to tempt our flesh to give in to our human instincts and desires and forsake God and not obey Jesus.
Paul teaches that we must protect ourselves from the devil by putting on the full armor of God.
Ephesians 6: 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
Disciples of God’s word wear the belt of God’s truth and use it to protect themselves from the devil’s schemes and lies and stand firm in it and not give in to their human instincts, emotions and desires of the devil temptations but will stand firm in God’s will.
Our righteous breastplate of our faith is the righteousness of Christ that we have in his broken body for our sins and the covenant of his blood for the forgiveness of our sins.
Ephesians 6: 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
This readiness is what Peter said we must always be prepared to do.
1 Peter 3: 15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
To protect yourself you must always be ready to share the hope you have in Jesus’ good news that promise that all who believe and love him will be with him and his Father forever in their and love and peace.
The more you share and even speak to yourself the more confident and sincere your words will be in expressing your hope and love for God.
Ephesians 6: 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Your faith must be built only on the knowledge of God’s truth which Jesus used against the devil’s temptation to in the desert. This kind of faith will protect you from being deceived by the flaming arrows of the devil’s lies. Believing you are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus written in God’s word becomes your helmet that will protect your mind from doubting your salvation cutting away all falsehood not true to Jesus.
Ephesians 6: 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
To pray in the Holy Spirit is to pray what is true to God’s will and then you will know you will receive it.
1 John 5: 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him.
God’s will is for you to love his Son and to listen to him as your Lord.
When God is your greatest treasure your love for him will make you do all that you can to protect yourself from devil’s temptations to take your love for God from you. That is why you must be a disciple of God’s word so that you can protect yourself with the full armor of God.
Be safe in Jesus, your brother in Christ, Glenn.
