Be Imitators of God
June 17, 2022
As disciples of Jesus, we should know what Jesus wants us to do in every situation that God has planned for us. Because Paul said we have the mind of Christ, walk like Jesus and be imitators of God.
Ephesians 5: 1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
To be able to do what Jesus wants us to do it must be done out of faith. Faith that believes that Jesus willingly gave himself as a sacrificial offering to ransom us from our death penalty for our sins. That he did this out of love for his Father and their love for us. If you believe this, you will love God with all your heart because he calls you his children and welcomes you into his eternal kingdom.
To love God is to willingly die to sin knowing that this pleases him. Jesus said if anyone wants to be with him, they must deny themselves, pick up their cross, meaning to die to sin and to follow his teachings and commandments.
Paul teaches in Ephesians how to imitate what God wants us to do.
Ephesians 5: 3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.
There cannot be any hint of sexual immorality and that is same sex union, adultery after a divorce that was not out of unfaithfulness or an unbelieving spouse wanting a divorce. There cannot be sex outside the bond of marriage. Sexual immorality is anything that is not true to God design that he created it to be from Scripture.
There cannot be any kind of impure acts or thoughts in the heart of believers that is not Christ loving and pure to each other as a family of God.
1 Timothy 5: 1 Do not rebuke an older man harshly but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity. 3 Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need.
There cannot be any love for wealth which Jesus said is the root of all Evil. When money becomes a person or a church first importance, they have lost their first love. Churches that conduct service just to increase their wealth has lost its first love for Jesus. A church is the body of Christ and Jesus as its head who wants everyone to work out their salvation with fear and trembling so that they repent and be saved. The church does this by first loving Jesus and obey his will that all be united in faith, having the complete and full knowledge of him,
Revelations 2: 4Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. 5 Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.
Just the hint of sexual immorality, impurity and greed, Pastors, church leaders and mature disciples are responsible to protect the body of Christ and keep Christ’s bride holy to Jesus. Hints of sin must be confronted quickly so it does not spread, condoned, or tolerated by immature believers in church. We must protect Christ bride and not a person’s sinful nature by correcting, admonishing sinfulness with God’s word with 1 Corinthians 13 love to save the lost and not be afraid to hurt someone’s feelings. When we condone or tolerate someone’s impurity it misleads them to continue in sin which drives the Holy Spirit away from them. Loving some in church is not giving in to their sinful actions but to love them by confronting their bad choices, so they can repent and be one with the Holy Spirit again.
When we love Jesus, we capture our every thought and conform it to him which changes the way we speak.
Ephesians 5: 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
As disciples of Christ, we have the light of God’s wisdom to know and understand his truth so that we will not be deceived by empty words that is spoken in and out of church but live with the wisdom of God.
Ephesians 5: 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them. 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." 15 Be very careful, then, how you live-- not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.
To love Jesus is not being asleep in knowing his teachings and commandment for the they are the light that saves us and the power of God.
Be safe in Jesus, Ps. Glenn
